Learner and training checks
- Bring the correct valid learner permit for the category being tested.
- Make sure mandatory training is complete and correctly recorded: EDT for cars or IBT for motorcycles.
- Confirm the booking details and any special accommodation requirements in advance.
Insurance rules changed in 2026
For car tests, the RSA says that from 9 March 2026 candidates must present a valid certificate of motor insurance showing that they are insured to drive the vehicle presented for test. The vehicle must also display the required original insurance disc.
Vehicle checks
- Correct tax, insurance and roadworthiness documentation for the vehicle/category.
- L-plates displayed where required.
- Tyres, lights, windows, mirrors, indicators and other safety-critical equipment working correctly.
- For heavy vehicles, the correct category vehicle and applicable CVRT and test-weight requirements.
