RSA WAITING TIMES

Driving test waiting times Ireland: invitation date versus test date.

The RSA waiting-time tool estimates when an eligible car learner may be invited to book. It does not guarantee the actual test date and it does not currently estimate every vehicle category.Checked against current official Irish information: 9 September 2026

Who can get a car estimate?

The RSA says the estimator is for car tests. To receive a personalised estimate, you need to be on the waiting list and eligible to sit the test. That includes the learner-permit and training requirements.

Why your date may not appear

A recent application may not appear immediately because the estimator data is updated periodically. Incorrect driver details, incomplete EDT records, an active booking invitation or not yet being eligible can also prevent the estimator from showing a date.

Motorcycle, truck and bus applicants

The RSA states that non-car categories are not covered by the personalised estimator. It currently says invitations for non-car categories are generally expected within about 10 to 12 weeks, although some centres and categories can take longer.

Do not confuse an invitation with an appointment

The invitation date is when the RSA expects to let you choose an available appointment. The test date is the date of the appointment you actually book. Demand, weather and operational factors can change availability, so treat estimates as guidance rather than a promise.
