Why that split matters
The NTA describes the full test as 90 multiple-choice questions: 54 Industry and 36 Area. The pass requirement applies to each module, so a strong Industry score does not compensate for weak Area Knowledge, or the other way around.
How TPI uses the same distinction
Industry Knowledge follows its chapter structure. Area Knowledge is organised by location type and focuses on connections between roads, places and routes. Keep practice and mock testing inside the module you are working on so your results stay meaningful.
